Our Transportation History
18th Annual Historical Cemetery Tour
Held Saturday, October
This Year's Award-Winning Cemetery Tour Looked at
History of Transportation in Early Orange County
Our 18th annual historic cemetery tour
explored the history of
travel to—and in—Orange County, from horses, wagons and
carriages, to planes, trains and automobiles. Guests met
pioneers who made the long journey west by wagon train and
sailing ship, Civil War veterans who packed their worldly
possessions in train cars, and commuters traveling by bicycle,
Model T, and the Red Car line. Tour guides led guests to the final resting places of
historic local figures, set in the beautiful greenery of
Fairhaven Memorial Park and Santa Ana Cemetery, where costumed
actors played out scenes from Orange County history.
Our annual historic cemetery tour is an exciting and fun glimpse into the past! Small
groups, a lovely outdoor setting, and close access to the actors
make the tour an entertaining outing for the whole family.
The unique “cemetery” tour has won a prestigious California
State Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation. This is the
Society’s 18th annual Living History tour, with proceeds
benefiting the organization’s educational programs and two
museums, The Dr. Willella Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum,
and the Santa Ana Fire Museum. The event is produced in
partnership with local writers, and actors from the Thespian
Club at Orange County School of the Arts. The tour is
co-sponsored by Fairhaven Memorial Park.
